About the Instructor
Master James Holan was born into a proud Military Family. Began training in Judo at the age of 5 at the YMCA in Garland Texas. Inspired by his Uncle, Lee Holan a 5th Degree Black Belt in Judo, who trained while stationed in Japan as a Marine and later become a Movie Stuntman. Began training in Taekwondo at the age of 12. Achieved his Black Belt in American TKD at the age of 16. Joined the Military at the age of 17. Spent 6 years in the Army National Guard. Achieved his 2nd Dan in TKD under Master Choi at the age of 23. Trained in Hapkido at Universal Martial Arts under Master Choi. 1986 opened the 1st Texas Karate Do in San Antonio, TX. Began training in Chinese Kenpo at age 29 after a severe knee injury. Achieved his Black Belt in Chinese Kenpo in 8 years. 1997 BA in Computer Science from Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, TX. 1999, started Blackbeltshop an online Martial Arts Supply Company. 2002 reopened Texas Karate Do in Irving, TX. 2004 due to the school's popularity, he moved the school to a bigger location. 2004 inducted into the USA Martial Arts Black Belt Hall of Fame as TKD instructor of the year. 2004 promoted to 4th Dan under Grandmaster Doctor Ted Gambordella. 2006 promoted to 5th Dan under Grandmaster Doctor Ted Gambordella. 2007 received the Silver Live Time Achievement Award for being in the Arts for over 25 years. 2010 promoted to 6th Dan under Grandmaster Doctor Ted Gambordella. 2011 due to overwhelming popularity, moved the school to a bigger location once again. 2012 expanded the school to include Jiu-Jitsu taught by Coach Allen Mohler. Proud Father and Husband of fellow Black Belt's Kevin and Rosie Holan respectively.
